I.S.A. Junior Athletics 14th. June

see Juniors' Gallery for photos

We competed against 16 other schools at South End on Sea. Grace George and Bertie Ellison competed well in the 75m sprint heats and made the final; where Grace in particular ran a respectable race.
Arianne Landini and Grace George both competed in the 150m sprint, both were extremely determined and ran well.
Two great potentials for the future are Olivia Hudson and Issy Charles. Both were competing against older pupils and produced great performances. Issy just missed out on a medal in the high jump.
Grace George was the athlete of the competition, watch out Martha!
Ms. Rogerson would like to thank Mr & Mrs Landini, Mrs George and Miss Kerr, without their hard work we couldn't have managed the day.

Six Golds for Sancton Wood

I.S.A. Senior Athletics

Wednesday 26th May

Martha George won the 100m and 200m in style! The second place runner was at least 20m behind- she really is an impressive athlete.
Marco D'Lauro won the discuss and shot put, again throwing much further than the other schools.
Robert Marmion won the Year 7 discuss and only lost out in the javelin by 1cm. An excellent result considering the lack of practise he has had.
Flossie Roberts won the Year 7 shot put. These four talented youngsters are now headed for the national competitions on Wednesday 23rd June.
A special mention should also go to Natalie cargill who came 2nd in the Year 11 300m, James Pullen was 2nd in the long jump, Ben Hammersley was 3rd in the 1500m, Kian Ahyee was 2nd in the 100m.
This is the fourth year we have attended this event and it was by far our best result, Well done to those pupils who attended.
The junior event will be held on Monday 14th June.

U15 Cricket vs Ely

We played some great cricket to push Ely right until the final over. Our opening bat Ben Hammersley (24) and Toby Palmer (19) opened strongly hitting several 4s and 6s. Robert Marmion, the youngest player on the field by three years, also kept Ely on their toes. Also, Jack Parker, batting late in the order scored double figures.
Ely were more than a little anxious as they prepared to bat. Hashim Nasser and Ben Hammersley bowled particularly well.
Kings eventually over-turned our total of 85 in the closing stages. But the boys were gracious in defeat, and will be back next time with a point to prove!

ISA Regional Cross Country

We all had a fantastic day. The children performed admirably. Ben Hammersley came 8th in his race and has therefore been selected to run in the Nationals.
Callum Taylor came 25th. and Oscar came 38th. out of 120 boys. More importantly the children who always behave so well, represented the school in a fantastic light, cheering all the other schools as well.

Year 6 football vs St. Laurence

On Thursday 4th Feb, Sancton Wood's year 4/5/6 team played away at St. Laurence Primary School.
Having played them last year and lost 12-0, the team was a little apprehensive.

Izzy Charles opened the scoring with a free kick against a five man wall. An impossible shot, but he managed to score. Chris Whitehouse was our other scorer. The boys fought hard for the full match and were rescued on many many occasions by our captain and goalkeeper Cory Bennett. The final score was 2-2. We were very proud. The man of the match was Pierce Atkinson.

Junior School Swimming Gala: Spring Term 2008

Spring term one of the most eagerly anticipated events within the Junior School Swimming gala. Every pupil in attendance swam bravely for their team, either Dragons, Griffins or Phoenix, with the Griffins coming out as overall winners. Edward Rogan, Griffins house captain, wrote the following report:

"The best bit for me in the swimming gala was when I was awarded the trophy from Dr Sturdy and everyone was screaming and clapping with joy. Everybody's sportmanship was very supporting for the younger ones that were nervous because they had never done it before. After every race if you came first, second or third you would go up on a podium and be awarded your medal and when you were up there you really felt happy inside. Even if you didn't get a medal you got an easter egg. This year some people gave some of their medals away to people who didn't get medals and that was a really kind thing to do and they really appreciated that."
