Global Higher Education
16th May 2011
Dear Parents,
Re: Global Higher Education Event, Perse Girls Senior School, Union Road 9th June 7.30pm
I would like to draw your attention to an event which is taking place at the Stephen Perse Sixth Form College. Entitled ‘Global Higher Education’ the evening will be a discussion of the opportunities students have to study their degree overseas. Bearing in mind the student fee increases and the fact that the university market is a truly global one I’m sure that this will be a matter of great interest to both pupils and parents. Even if you may not be considering applying overseas, with 3 UK universities being represented this is a good opportunity to hear about our own system as well.
The evening will be a Q&A (Question Time style) session involving representatives from Cambridge, Bath, Imperial College, Harvard, Princeton and Maastricht Universities.
It will be held at the Stephen Perse Senior School (Perse Girls Senior School) on Union Road on 9th June. Start time is 7.30pm. More details can be obtained from The Stephen Perse Sixth Form office on college@stephenperse.com. The Stephen Perse Sixth Form College is the co-educational Sixth Form of the Foundation. We recommend an early arrival as we expect towards 400 people on site. There will be no car parking available at the college.
I’m sure that you’ll agree that this sounds like a fascinating evening, which could have some major implications on the choices your children will be making.
Places are restricted so please contact Maggie Foulds to confirm your attendance, stating how many people are in your party. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Warm regards,
Richard Settle

Dear Parents
It seems we may have already had our summer at Easter. However, I would like to remind you that in the summer term pupils (boys and girls) are permitted to wear a plain white polo shirt. We had hoped that John Lewis would be able to produce a plain white polo shirt with a blue Sancton Wood logo but unfortunately they have not managed this.
So the following is permitted to be worn with normal school uniform, obviously no tie is required when wearing a polo shirt.
Plain white polo shirt available from John Lewis (Not the school PE one with the yellow school logo)
The shirt should not have any logo or writing on it e.g. ‘Lacoste’, ‘Adidas’.
The shirt should fit well and not be big and baggy.
Uniform
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you about the rules regarding jewellery.
Girls are allowed only one pair of simple stud earrings (one earring only in each ear)
Boys are NOT allowed earrings.
Necklaces are only permitted if they are ‘religious’ e.g. a simple cross.
Year 11 only have the privilege of wearing one simple finger ring and girls are allowed discrete make up.
Equipment
A number of pupils have returned after the break lacking essential equipment. Each pupil has an equipment list in their student planner/homework diary and you can use this to check they have everything.
Please ensure your child comes to school in correct uniform and properly equipped.
Exam week
This commences Monday 23rd May. If they have not already commenced studying, your child should be starting revision very soon indeed!
School will finish for Seniors at 3:15 pm Friday 27th May
Reminder – Please note there will be no hot lunches during exam week.
Yours sincerely

It is essential candidates bring with them their writing equipment and drawing instruments in a clear plastic pencil case. No equipment will be loaned or borrowed during an examination. Year 11 should not inconvenience other students, including their siblings, by borrowing equipment prior to the exam.
Candidates should remember ink eraser pens and tippex are not allowed and BLACK biro or ink is required. No food or drink is to be consumed during an examination.
During study leave all teachers of Year 11 will be on site during the scheduled Year 11 teaching time. Pupils wishing to consult with a member of staff during this time should make arrangements on an individual basis with the member of staff concerned.
All school textbooks must be returned. These should be returned as soon as possible after the last subject exam to the subject teacher. The cost of books not returned or returned damaged will be deducted from the deposit.
The Leavers’ Service will be held in St Paul’s Church on Wednesday 29th June. Please be seated by 2:20 pm. Afternoon Tea for Year 11, their parents and staff will be served thereafter in the School garden, weather permitting.
The GCSE examination results will be available from the school between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm on Thursday 25th August. Results not collected by 1:30 pm will be posted if a stamped, self-addressed envelope has been provided. Please give advanced warning if you wish the results to be emailed and ensure the email address supplied is correct.
It is customary for pupils to leave the school premises as soon as the examination has ended. Please sign and return the attached slip giving permission for your child to leave the school premises if their examination has ended.
May we take this opportunity to wish Year 11 and their families all the very best for the forthcoming GCSE and IGCSE exam preparation.
