Dear Nursery and Pre-Prep Parents,
This time last year all the nursery and pre-prep staff were busy planning for our move from St Paul’s Road to 17 Station Road. We have enjoyed a whole term now in our newly refurbished building and it really does feel like home, though of course we continue to have important links with our ‘mother school’.
The children have settled amazingly quickly and are enjoying their new environment. The new art room is a resounding success, and our well-equipped Library has become a haven for inquisitive minds.
The spacious garden is a delight. The children are taking full advantage of the natural den building area, and their imaginative creation of wigwams, ships and space rockets have encouraged positive co-operation and communication skills, in a way that is not so easy in a traditional entirely tarmac play area.
Any new project has teething troubles and we have had a few along the way, but our positive and resourceful staff and supportive parents have worked together to get things right for the children. We are excited about our next new development which will be the laying of astro-turf over an area of the garden to give an all-weather play surface perfectly in keeping with our more natural environment.
However good the building and grounds, any school is only as good as its staff – and its parents.
At Sancton Wood our staff have been recognised as exceptional. As the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate noted this year, “The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is ‘outstanding’. All staff foster confidence and respect… and all children make rapid progress from their individual starting points.”
The parent / teacher partnership continues to be such a strong element and we are grateful for the warm support and appreciation of all our parents. It is part of what makes Sancton Wood such a wonderful place for our children to grow and develop, and the feeling of being part of a big family makes us all capable of being “the best we can be.”
