STEM

We love all things Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

STEM Week is a highlight of the school year with all manner of lotions, potions, whizzes, bangs, colours and discoveries, all delighting and inspiring our next generation of scientists.

We are very lucky to be supported by our very own STEM Ambassador Mrs Angelillo and have the use of four science labs across our sites.

At the Senior School, Science is taught by some truly inspirational scientists. Our Head of Science, Mrs Ainscough, has been awarded membership of The Royal Society of Biology, in part for her contribution to the Human Genome Project. Our Chemistry teacher, Dr Kay, was made a Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry for her significant contribution to the field of science for discovering the first HIV drug that came to market. She has won the Prix Gallien, holds five inventors’ patents for her innovations which are sold around the world, has published work and has written courses for the Open University.

Our ICT teacher shares her enthusiasm for and specialist knowledge of programming, artificial intelligence and robotics having spent time living in Japan.

At the Prep School, Science lessons are taught within classes with the use of a fully functioning laboratory where children can see all aspects of Science learning brought to life! Our School STEM Ambassador frequently shares breathtaking experiments with the children to foster and encourage the love of all things STEM!

All of our STEM subjects are supported by engaging enrichment opportunities allowing our students to further explore the areas they love the most and experience what a future career in the field might be like. Students across the school have enrichment opportunities in robotics, programming, rocketry and Lego Mindstorms. At the Prep School students follow an Introduction to Engineering Challenge whilst at our Senior site they can qualify for The Crest Award, attend classes in Scientific Journalism or join the Zooniverse movement.
