11 students from Prep to upper Prep were invited to Twickenham to watch two rugby matches; the Women’s followed by the Men’s British University Rugby Finals. The students were selected based on their all-round positive attitude, commitment to the PE sporting values (T-REDS) and for students that are taking IGCSE PE next year.
For the Women’s match it was University of Edinburgh vs Northumbria University, with the former team being crowned victors 48 – 5.
For the Mens match it was University of Exeter vs Hartpury College. Two dominating rugby strong holds, of which Hartpury was the winning team 27 – 24.
The event was organised very well and each university had a large contingent of supporters, who were equally as entertaining as the matches themselves; with drums, chants, claps, and good humoured banter all round. Fortunately the students of Sancton Wood, along with a number of other schools, were sat at a safe distance where they were able to enjoy both the rugby and the amusement of the university supporters.
In all, it was a great day out and hopefully some of the students will appreciate the broadness of opportunities that university can provide and be inspired to achieve in their own sports.
