Our Year 9 recently attended a Holocaust Memorial Day event hosted by the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse. The year group will be studying World War II and the Holocaust in History and Religious Studies next term so this was the a good introduction to an emotive topic.
The morning’s event consisted of a screening of Kath Shackleton’s BAFTA nominated Children of the Holocaust – a series of recorded oral testimonies from Holocaust survivors about their childhood experiences, turned into short animated films. The films show how people experienced the Holocaust and Nazi occupation in several different European countries and gave the students a nuanced and intimate insight to the history of the Holocaust. After the film(s), Holocaust survivor – Bernd Koschland held a Q&A session with the group and spoke to them about his own experiences.
