On Saturday, the Sancton Wood Chess team played the final three matches in the last round of the Cambridgeshire Schools Chess League.
Starting in October, and featuring 15 matches over 5 Saturdays during the year, Sancton Wood started the last round in joint 16th place, hoping for a finish in the top half of the table.
The children played some great chess winning their first match against Kimbolton by 5 games to 1. Despite a close loss to Kings in the next game, a win against Melbourne in the third match, meant that Sancton Wood achieved a top 10 finish in a field of 30 teams, which was a fantastic achievement.
All the children who took part deserve credit for their fantastic sportsmanship and team spirit, and their collective delight at their final result was brilliant to see. A big thank you, too, to all parents who supported their children in coming to the matches, to have a full team for every single match was one of the reasons for such a great result.
