There was excitement, determination and plenty of school spirit on display as pupils from nursery through to year 6 came together for this year’s Prep School Sports Day.
Throughout the day, children competed in a fantastic variety of events, with opportunities for every age group to shine, covering a range of both track and field, from high jump and shot putt to 100 metre sprints and 400 metre races. Whether sprinting for the finish line or giving their all to jump as far as possible in the long jump, every pupil demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience, and a determination to do their best.
The competition saw pupils proudly representing their school houses — Dragon, Griffin, and Phoenix — in a sea of the house colours: green, yellow and red. While there was certainly a palpable competitive energy, what stood out most throughout the day was the incredible sense of sportsmanship and encouragement shown by everyone involved.
There were countless heartwarming moments that perfectly captured the spirit of the day. Before competing for the top places in the high jump, the eventual gold and silver medallists shared a handshake and wished one another luck ahead of their jumps. Elsewhere, two girls could be heard enthusiastically calling, ‘we believe in you!’ in perfect unison as they cheered on their friend competing for a different house. It was a wonderful reminder that whilst house pride mattered, supporting each other mattered more.
The atmosphere around the field was incredible. Parents lined the track enjoying their treats from the Toni’s Ice Cream van whilst cheering on every competitor, while senior school students played an invaluable role helping the teachers run events, encouraging younger pupils and celebrating every achievement. Their support helped make the day run smoothly and created an inspiring sense of community across the whole school.
Every participant was applauded, every effort was celebrated, and every finish line crossed was met with encouragement. From Nursery’s first races to Year 6 chasing personal bests, the day showcased not only sporting talent but resilience, teamwork, kindness, and school pride.
Congratulations to all our pupils for embracing the day with such enthusiasm and positivity. A special congratulations goes to Phoenix, who were crowned this year’s Sports Day champions after a fantastic display of teamwork and perseverance.
A huge thank you goes to our staff, notably Mr Clarke who planned and led the day, senior school volunteers, and supportive families whose encouragement helped make this year’s sports day such a memorable celebration of our school community. We would also like to thank Cambridge University for once again allowing us to use their outstanding athletics facilities, not only for Sports Day but also throughout the year for our PE lessons.
While medals were proudly earned, the memories made, confidence gained and kindness shown throughout the day are what will stay with our pupils long after the finish line has been crossed. Sports day was not just a celebration of athletic achievement; it was a celebration of the values that make our school so special.
