SCIENCE DAY WEDNESDAY 14TH MARCH CANCELLED
Dear Parents
There will be no Science Day at Duxford on Wednesday 14th March and it will now be a normal school day. Regrettably, the event has been cancelled due to lack of numbers from other schools.
Kind regards

Junior Football - Jan 2012
Sancton Wood vs St Albans Primary
Wednesday 25th January
With the pain of defeat from our previous fixture long forgotten, our Junior football team took to the manicured lawns of the Fenners Sports Arena with renewed enthusiasm for their first match of 2012.
We welcomed back into the side Francis Nitsch-Jones - now fully recovered from his broken collar bone - Freddie Stevenson - now not on a school trip - and having spent the close season training in New York, Thierry Hen.. Sorry, Omulo Bennun
The opening moments of the match were a nervy affair with both teams keen to take control of the game and not make any mistakes that might lead to conceding an early goal. Soon bored of such efforts, Sancton Wood let their collective concentration slip and - with a flash of the opposition forwards fancy blue boots - found themselves two goals behind.
Down but by no means out, Sancton Wood picked themselves up, dusted themselves off and - led by their inspirational captain Ben Lea – began to fight their way back into contention. The hard work paid off, and it was 'captain courageous' Ben Lea who scored just before half time to put the team well and truly back in the game. HALF TIME – Sancton Wood 1 – St Albans 2
Maybe five minutes for a half time break is too long!? No sooner had we kicked off again than Sancton Wood found themselves slipping back down the mountain and the deficit back to two goals.
It is often said that you can tell much about the character and spirit of a team by the way in which they react in times of hardship. Times were now hard and Sancton Wood reacted admirably. Sleeves were rolled up, shirts untucked, mud smeared across cheeks.. we were going to battle. First over the top was captain Lea followed closely by his lieutenant - Charlie Norrish – the 'big push' was now in full swing. Indeed it was lieutenant Norrish and Captain Lea who combined well to score two goals worthy of any playing field and put Sancton Wood back on level terms with the score now at 3 -3 .
With this report threatening to go on as long as the match itself I will quickly gloss over the sting in the St Albans tail which was their fourth and winning goal. For the Sancton Wood team there is much for them to be proud of in what was a delightfully spirited effort from all, with notable performances in defence from Navindu Leelarathna and Beth Macaulay, battling midfield displays from Charlie Norrish, Francis Nitsch-Jones and a promising glimpse of the future from Thierry Henry clone Omulo Bennun.
FINAL SCORE – Sancton Wood 3 – St Albans 4
MAN OF THE MATCH – Ben Lea (like Bryan Robson in his pomp)
Cross Country News
28th November 2011
On Monday the 28th of November 21 pupils from Sancton Wood entered the local cross country at Netherhall school. 9 local schools entered and although it was a year 5 and 6 event, being such a small school we had to boost our teams with year 3's and 4's. There were between 60 and 80 pupils per race. All our pupils ran their hearts out for the school and I felt very proud watching them. The course was about 1500m and involved a long hill. Olivia Hudson was our best placed runner coming 3rd and as she was our girls captain set a great example for the rest of her team. Freddie Stevenson came 6th overall excellent considering he was a year young. Peter Copp came 8th, Rosie Geisler10th and Ben Lea(boys captain}19th. A special mention should go to our wonderful year 3 pupils who were running against children 2 years older; especially Lilly Boo Upton who came a remarkable 13th 2 years young.
A great day was had by all the pupils at a well run event.
