Match Report: Sancton Wood vs King’s Ely School

sancton wood football

As we travelled the 16 miles to king’s Ely the boys were in good spirits, shame about the weather but as I pointed out it’s the same for both teams.

We arrived safely and on time and were greeted by one of their many sports teachers, the boys quickly changed and got down to the pitch for a quick warm up.

The game started well with both teams slipping and sliding around until they found their footing, the early exchanges were fast and it was the Sancton Wood boys who opened the scoring and then the early pressure told and we scored again. The King’s boys were playing some good football and as the clock ticked away they scored a good team goal but the Sancton Wood boys hit back on the stroke of half time to finish the half 3-1.

After the break the King’s goalkeeper went of injured which meant the new goalie was not up to standard and let in an easy goal, 4-1, but the Sancton Wood boys sensed the opportunity and another goalie error saw them go 5-1 up. The Kings boys had one last effort and were rewarded with another fine team goal despite Kyran’s diving effort to stop it 5-2. The last passage of play saw the Sancton Wood boys completely dominate the last 5 minutes and score another 2 goals to finish off 7-2.

It would be hard to choose 1 individual for man-of-the-match because they all played with pride and passion throughout the match but my favourite which still makes me smile is when right from the kick-off Omulo slipped over in the mud.

Well played team!
