Year 4 Trip to The Fitzwilliam Museum

Our trip to the Fitzwilliam Museum to see the Ancient Egyptian exhibition was a great success.

The children worked hard to see as much as they could in the time, focussing on little details as well as the large sarcophagi that dominate the space.  We saw all sorts of artefacts that gave us clues about Ancient Egyptian life – such as shabti figures which were included in tombs, details from the Book of the Dead painted on coffins, the rare and therefore expensive nature of wood, the difference in burial practices for the rich and the poor, the use of jewellery to decorate etc.  We will build on this experience as we go though the term learning more about this fascinating civilisation.
