I was delighted to hear yesterday that SW had made it into Cambridgeshire’s top 10 schools for their GCSE results in 2016. Article
We placed 5th in the table overall:
1. Focus School – 69.3 // NP // 100 // 88
2. St Mary’s School – 65.8 // NP // 88 // 20
3. Parkside Community College 60.9 // 0.6 // 89 // 61
4. Kimbolton School 60.8 // NP // 58 // 43
5. Sancton Wood School 60.7 // NP // 100 // 19
6. Impington Village College 60.2 // 0.64 // 81 // 41
7. Chesterton Community College 59.1 // 0.5 // 79 // 51
You’ll notice that the scoring is slightly different this year, with the rankings done on Attainment
8 levels. This measures the average achievement of pupils in up to eight qualifications
including English (double weighted if the combined English qualification, or both language and
literature are taken), maths (double weighted), three further qualifications that count in the
English Baccalaureate (EBacc) and three further qualifications that can be GCSE qualifications
(including EBacc subjects) or any other non-GCSE qualifications on the DfE approved list.
All very complicated and, as I’ve said many times before, I’m not hugely influenced or driven by
these rankings; our broad admissions policy is evidence of this. There’s more to a student and
to school life than English, Maths and Science and I refuse to select students on these alone.
Nevertheless, performances like this do show that small classes, good teachers and a great
deal of love and laughter will always be a winning combination. Good for us!
