Year 4 finished the first half of term with a trip to the Amey Cespa waste recycling plant in Waterbeach. Here we learned about the different places that our waste goes to be sorted, observed machines and people sorting the waste, made an elephant from a milk bottle, used the compost made at the site (which is free to anyone who cares to go there by the way – all you need is a bag and a shovel!) to plant a sunflower seed in the other half of our milk bottle, and considered the importance of not contaminating waste. We saw the whirling seagulls over the landfill site and came home with the whiff of rubbish around us!
