UKMT Mathematics challenge

4 students outside a building

Mr Escalante-Phillips took 4 students from year 8 and 9 to compete in the UKMT mathematical team challenge. The level was very high both in terms of the questions asked and the competition. The results were very close and the team came 17/29 which doesn’t do them credit for the amazing work they did as a team. There were four rounds which consisted of a group round, a cross number, a shuttle and a relay. There was a combination of pair and team work exercises.

Not only did the students have fun and do some excellent maths but they were a real credit to the school and I had three separate teachers from different schools approach me to say how polite all our students were and how they were impressed how they worked together as a team.

Here they are after the event!
